When deciding between career paths in nursing, one major question many ask is: RN vs. Practical Nursing, and what鈥檚 the difference? Both roles serve essential purposes in healthcare, and both can open doors to meaningful work. Registered Nurses (RNs) typically have a broader scope of practice, while Practical Nurses (often referred to as LPNs or LVNs, depending on the region) usually enter the field more quickly with a focused credential.

Understanding the distinction between an RN and a Practical Nursing path, what each role entails, how they compare, and which might fit your goals, is key to making an informed decision. In this blog, we鈥檒l walk through the definitions, responsibilities, training requirements, work environments, and how education at 91制片厂 can support either route.

By the end, you鈥檒l have a clearer view of how to choose the path that aligns with your interests, timeframe, and career plans.

Defining the Roles

What do they do?

In the discussion of RN and a Practical Nurse, the first step is to define the roles. A Registered Nurse (RN) holds a nursing license that allows for a wide range of responsibilities: administering medications, coordinating care, interpreting patient data, planning and evaluating care for patients, and collaborating with other health professionals. In contrast, a Practical Nurse (often Licensed Practical Nurse or LPN) typically fills a more supervised role, focusing on basic medical care such as monitoring vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities, providing direct bedside care, and reporting to RNs or physicians.

For example, an RN might assess a patient鈥檚 overall care plan and adjust interventions, while a PN may assist the patient with bathing, help ambulate, monitor simple clinical indicators, and alert the RN to changes. The difference isn鈥檛 a value judgment; it鈥檚 about scope, responsibility, and the level of training. When considering 鈥淩N vs. Practical Nursing,鈥 think of it as two paths, each with a role in the care team but with different skill sets and training timelines.

Training and Education Requirements

Educational Pathways

When comparing nursing career paths, an important factor is how much time and training each path requires. Practical Nursing programs are usually shorter and more focused. For instance, at 91制片厂, the Practical Nursing Diploma provides the coursework and clinical experience designed to help students prepare for the NCLEX-PN exam.

In contrast, the RN credential typically comes via an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN/ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. At 91制片厂, the Nursing Degree program (Associate of Science) prepares students for the NCLEX-RN exam.

What does that mean practically? If you choose the Practical Nursing path, you may complete your program faster and begin working sooner. If you choose the RN path, you鈥檒l invest more time in your education but may gain a broader scope of practice. Both paths involve clinical training, certification exams, and licenses. Time, commitment, and career goals all matter.

Scope of Practice and Responsibilities

What Each Role Does on the Job

Understanding what each role does day-to-day is essential. Practical Nurses often provide direct, hands-on patient care: helping patients with activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs, reporting changes, providing basic wound care, inserting or removing certain devices under supervision, and assisting with patient comfort and safety.

Registered Nurses, however, generally have broader responsibilities. They may conduct initial patient assessments, develop and adjust care plans, administer more complex medications (including IVs), educate patients or their families, supervise other nursing staff (including PNs/LPNs and nursing assistants), coordinate care across departments, and use critical thinking to respond to changing patient conditions.

For example, in a hospital setting, a PN may be assigned stable patients in a ward, assisting with hygiene and monitoring. An RN may manage multiple patients, lead rounds, teach newer staff, and intervene when patient status changes.

Career Path and Advancement Options

Progression Opportunities

Another key aspect of the comparison is career progression. Practical Nurses often begin in long-term care facilities, outpatient clinics, or home health settings. Over time, many choose to advance their education toward an RN status through bridge programs. Indeed, some institutions highlight that once you gain experience as a PN/LPN, you may pursue an RN degree or BSN.

Registered Nurses have a wider variety of opportunities from the start: acute care hospitals, emergency rooms, intensive care units, leadership roles, specialized units (pediatrics, oncology, telemetry), or even further advancement into nurse education, management, or graduate study.

Thus, if your goal includes a broad scope, varied career settings, or leadership within nursing, the RN path may make sense. If your goal is to begin caring for patients sooner, enter the workforce, and still have potential to advance later, the Practical Nursing path is a strong choice.

Factors to Consider Before Choosing

What You Should Ask When Comparing

When you鈥檙e evaluating, several practical factors should guide your decision: program length and cost, time to start working, types of clinical environments offered, licensing exam requirements, and personal interests in patient care scope.

Consider questions like:

  • How long will each program take, and when can I begin working?
  • What is the level of responsibility I want in patient care?
  • Do I prefer a narrower role with hands-on care or a broader role with coordination and leadership?
  • Will I want to continue my education later (e.g., RN to BSN)?
  • What clinical settings appeal to me (long-term care, home health, acute hospital)?
  • What are the licensing requirements in my state for PN vs RN?

By answering these questions, you鈥檒l be better positioned to choose what aligns with your goals, timeframe, and resources.

Recommendations for Your Path

Guidance on Choosing Between the Two

Here鈥檚 a practical guideline: If you鈥檙e looking to start your healthcare career sooner and want hands-on patient care in a stable setting, the Practical Nursing path may be the right fit. If you鈥檙e ready for a longer program, want a broader skill set, and aim to work in diverse clinical settings or move into leadership roles, the RN route may be more suitable.

Tailored Recommendations for Various Situations

  • If you have limited time or resources and want to begin patient care within two years or so, consider the Practical Nursing Diploma.
  • If you鈥檝e completed prerequisites or have allied-health experience and want to pursue a full nursing role, choose the RN program for more depth.
  • If you value flexibility and a wide range of work environments (ICU, ER, outpatient, leadership), plan for the RN path from the start.

These structured recommendations will help you make informed decisions based on your circumstances and keep your long-term goals in view.

The Importance of Education in Nursing

A clear understanding also highlights why formal education plays a critical role. The value of a structured curriculum, clinical practice, licensure preparation, and institutional support cannot be overstated when you鈥檙e preparing for healthcare work. At 91制片厂, the Practical Nursing Diploma gives students the focused training to complete the NCLEX-PN exam and begin patient care. Likewise, the Nursing Degree (Associate of Science) prepares students for the NCLEX-RN and broader nursing responsibilities. This education includes hands-on labs, clinical rotations in real healthcare settings, experienced instructors, and preparation for professional licensure and ethical practice.

By enrolling in one of these programs, students can build a strong foundation in patient care, safety practices, technical procedures, and teamwork, important elements for pursuing nursing licensure and professional roles. Education bridges the gap between wanting to help others and having the capability, competence, and confidence to do so.

Benefits of 91制片厂鈥檚 Programs

When you choose 91制片厂鈥檚 nursing programs, you gain several advantages:

  • Focused curriculum aligned with licensing exams and healthcare demands.
  • Hands-on clinical experience that places you in patient care environments under supervision.
  • Accessible program options allowing for dedication to your studies with support.

  • Experienced faculty and resources are committed to preparing students for real-world roles.

These features are designed to help prepare students for entry-level roles in healthcare and provide a foundation for continued learning.

Conclusion

Choosing between RN vs. Practical Nursing is an important decision; it鈥檚 about matching your timeframe, interests, and career goals with the role that fits you best. Whether you enter through the Practical Nursing diploma or the Nursing (RN) degree, both paths lead to patient-care work.

If you鈥檙e ready to begin your nursing education, explore 91制片厂鈥檚 Practical Nursing Diploma or the Nursing Degree programs to learn more about what you鈥檒l study and how to get started.

In every service-focused career, communication is one of the most essential skills. It goes beyond simply exchanging information鈥攊t鈥檚 about creating understanding, building trust, and supporting positive experiences. For students preparing to enter professional fields, understanding why effective client communication is crucial is just as important as technical training.

Strong communication skills can make the difference between a client feeling comfortable, informed, and valued鈥攐r leaving uncertain about the service they received. From discussing expectations at the beginning of an appointment to explaining follow-up care or instructions, clear communication supports both the professional and the client in achieving their goals.

This blog will break down the importance of why client communication matters in beauty and wellness careers, exploring common challenges and providing practical examples of how effective communication benefits both clients and professionals.

Building Trust Through Communication

Why Trust Is Key to Client Relationships

Trust is one of the most important outcomes of effective communication. When clients feel heard, respected, and understood, they are more likely to trust the professional providing the service.

In a beauty or wellness setting, a cosmetologist who listens to a client鈥檚 preferences and confirms them before starting a service creates reassurance and confidence. Whether it鈥檚 an esthetician explaining a facial treatment or a massage therapist reviewing pressure preferences, trust begins with conversation.

Without trust, even the most technically skilled service can fall short of meeting a client鈥檚 expectations. Simple habits, such as maintaining eye contact, repeating key points back, or asking clarifying questions, demonstrate attentiveness and help establish strong relationships.

Clarity and Accuracy Prevent Misunderstandings

Reducing Errors Through Clear Communication

Another reason why client communication matters in beauty and wellness is its role in preventing misunderstandings. Miscommunication can lead to mistakes, dissatisfaction, or even safety concerns.

For example, if a client requests a specific skincare treatment but the esthetician doesn鈥檛 clarify their expectations, the result may not align with what the client imagined. By taking time to restate instructions, provide written materials, or confirm details before beginning, professionals can avoid confusion and support better outcomes. Good communication ensures that both the client and the provider are aligned on expectations and next steps.

Enhancing the Client Experience

Creating Positive Interactions and Repeat Business

Clients often remember how they were treated more than the details of the service itself. A professional who communicates with warmth, patience, and professionalism can create an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

For example, imagine visiting a salon for a haircut. The stylist who takes time to explain styling options, asks questions about your preferences, and checks in throughout the appointment is more likely to deliver a satisfying result. Similarly, a massage therapist who explains how pressure can be adjusted and encourages feedback can help clients feel safe and supported.

Positive communication doesn鈥檛 just enhance the immediate experience鈥攊t can also influence whether a client chooses to return or recommend the service to others. This is especially important in beauty and wellness careers, where word-of-mouth referrals and repeat visits can be key to professional success.

Professionalism and Career Growth

How Communication Impacts Opportunities

Strong communication is often linked with professionalism, which can influence career opportunities and advancement. Employers value employees who can communicate effectively with both clients and coworkers.

In team-based environments, professionals who communicate clearly help maintain smooth workflows. In client-facing roles, those same skills can lead to stronger client relationships, better reviews, and potential referrals. Over time, professionals who consistently demonstrate effective communication may stand out for leadership roles or other opportunities.

This makes communication not just a helpful skill but an important one that can support professional growth over time.

Recommendations for Strong Client Communication

Tips for Improving Everyday Interactions

Improving communication doesn鈥檛 require major changes鈥攊t often comes down to practicing small, consistent habits. Here are a few recommendations:

  • Listen Actively: Give clients your full attention and avoid interrupting.
  • Clarify Details: Repeat back requests to confirm understanding.
  • Use Simple Language: Avoid jargon and explain terms in a way clients can easily understand.
  • Encourage Questions: Create space for clients to ask about the process or next steps.
  • Follow Up: Provide aftercare instructions or check in when appropriate.

These practices help ensure that both the professional and the client feel confident and aligned throughout their interaction.

Tailoring Communication to Different Situations

Adjusting Your Approach Based on Client Needs

Every client is different, so effective communication often means adjusting your approach:

  • With Nervous Clients: Use a calm tone and provide reassurance, explaining each step of the process.
  • With First-Time Clients: Offer extra detail and check in often to make sure they feel comfortable.
  • With Long-Term Clients: Maintain consistency but ask for updates to keep up with changing needs.
  • With Clients Who Have Language Barriers: Use visual aids, written instructions, or interpreters when available.

By recognizing these differences, professionals can adapt their communication to meet each client鈥檚 unique needs and create a more positive experience.

The Importance of Education in Client Communication

In fields like cosmetology, esthetics, and massage therapy, education isn鈥檛 just about technical skills. It also includes developing communication skills that prepare graduates to succeed in real-world environments.

At 91制片厂, communication is built into the learning process across all Beauty and Wellness programs. Whether students are practicing consultations in cosmetology, discussing skincare needs in esthetics, or learning client intake in massage therapy, they are encouraged to develop strong communication habits alongside their technical training.

The college鈥檚 programs combine classroom learning with hands-on experiences, allowing students to practice professional communication in supervised settings. This helps ensure that graduates not only feel comfortable with their craft but also with the conversations that surround it鈥攁n essential part of client satisfaction and professional success.

Stepping into the professional world for the first time can feel overwhelming鈥攅specially when it comes to job interviews. Whether you鈥檙e a recent graduate or transitioning into a new field, interviews are your opportunity to make a strong impression and show potential employers what you bring to the table. But how do you prepare if it鈥檚 your first time?

In this guide, we鈥檒l walk you through essential interview tips for landing your first job. We鈥檒l explore how to prepare beforehand, how to present yourself during the conversation, and what to do after the interview to leave a positive and lasting impression. These steps are designed to help you feel more confident and present yourself effectively during interviews.

Even if you鈥檙e new to the workforce, showing that you鈥檙e thoughtful, organized, and motivated can go a long way. Whether you鈥檙e interviewing for a healthcare support role, a customer-facing job, or an administrative position, these strategies are designed to help you navigate the process with professionalism and purpose.

Research and Prepare Ahead of Time

Know the Company and the Role

One of the most important interview tips for landing your first job is doing your homework before you walk into the room鈥攐r log into the video call. Learning about the company鈥檚 mission, services, and values shows you鈥檙e genuinely interested and proactive. Hiring managers notice when a candidate has taken the time to understand the role and organization.

Start by reviewing the job description and highlighting key responsibilities and required skills. Then, visit the company鈥檚 website and social media pages to get a feel for their brand and culture. Look up recent news or updates to understand any current initiatives or growth.

Also, think about how your education or training connects with the job. Be prepared to talk about specific courses, hands-on experiences, or projects that relate to the position you鈥檙e applying for. Having examples ready makes your responses more memorable and authentic.

Practice Answering Common Questions

Structure Your Responses Clearly

While you can鈥檛 predict every question, there are several common ones that appear in most interviews鈥攅specially for entry-level positions. Practicing your answers in advance can help you speak clearly and confidently, even if you’re feeling nervous.

Typical questions include:

  • 鈥淭ell me about yourself.鈥
  • 鈥淲hy are you interested in this role?鈥
  • 鈥淲hat are your strengths and weaknesses?鈥
  • 鈥淭ell me about a time you solved a problem.鈥

Use a simple structure like the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) when answering behavioral questions. This helps you stay organized and makes it easier for the interviewer to follow your story.

If you don鈥檛 have much work experience, that鈥檚 okay. You can pull examples from school projects, volunteer work, internships, or even personal challenges where you demonstrated initiative, teamwork, or problem-solving.

Dress the Part and Be On Time

Make a Strong First Impression

First impressions matter, especially in interviews. Your appearance, punctuality, and demeanor can shape how employers view your level of professionalism. Dressing appropriately鈥攅ven for a virtual interview鈥攕hows respect for the opportunity.

Choose business casual attire unless otherwise specified. Make sure your outfit is clean, neat, and free of distractions. For online interviews, test your technology ahead of time, choose a quiet location, and keep your background clutter-free.

Plan to arrive (or log in) 10 to 15 minutes early. Being on time is a simple way to demonstrate responsibility and reliability鈥攓ualities every employer values in a new hire.

Ask Thoughtful Questions

Show Your Interest and Engagement

An interview isn鈥檛 just for the employer to evaluate you鈥攊t鈥檚 also your chance to learn more about the role and workplace. Asking thoughtful questions shows you鈥檙e engaged and serious about the opportunity.

Some good questions to consider:

  • 听鈥淐an you describe a typical day in this role?鈥
  • 听鈥淲hat does a successful first 90 days look like?鈥
  • 听鈥淲hat kind of support or training do new hires receive?鈥

Avoid questions that focus too heavily on pay or time off unless the employer brings them up. Instead, keep your questions centered on how you can contribute and grow within the company.

Preparing a few questions in advance can help keep the conversation balanced and give you deeper insight into whether the job aligns with your goals.

Tailor Your Approach to the Situation

Tips for Different Interview Formats

Interviews come in different formats鈥攑hone, video, in-person, and panel. While the core tips stay the same, there are a few things to keep in mind for each type.

For phone interviews:

  • 听Find a quiet space with good reception.
  • 听Keep your resume and notes in front of you.
  • 听Smile while speaking鈥攊t affects your tone and energy.

For video interviews:

  • 听Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection ahead of time.
  • 听Use good lighting and a neutral background.
  • 听Maintain eye contact by looking at the camera, not the screen.

For in-person interviews:

  • 听Bring extra copies of your resume.
  • 听Practice good posture and offer a firm handshake (if appropriate).
  • 听Follow up with a thank-you note after the interview.

Adjusting your approach based on the format helps you present yourself professionally in any situation.

Securing a job often hinges on acing the interview process. It’s your chance to showcase your skills, experience, and personality to potential employers. However, interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences, leaving many candidates feeling overwhelmed. With the right preparation and mindset, you can approach your interviews with confidence and poise. We’ll explore some interview tips to help you prepare for your next role.

Research, Research, Research

Before you even send your resume or apply for a position, it’s crucial to thoroughly research the company and the role you’re applying for. Did you know that you can get a copy of the actual job description? It lists all the tasks you will be doing in order of importance to the company. If you haven鈥檛 done your research by now, it is crucial! Familiarize yourself with the organization’s mission, values, recent achievements, and industry trends. This demonstrates your genuine interest in the company and allows you to tailor your responses accordingly.

Practice Your Responses

While you can’t predict every question you’ll be asked during an interview, you can prepare responses to common inquiries. Practice articulating your achievements, strengths, and career goals clearly and concisely. Utilize the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses to behavioral questions. By rehearsing your answers, you’ll feel more confident and polished on interview day. Your body language will also match what you are saying!

Dress for Success

Your appearance plays a significant role in making a positive first impression during an interview. Dress professionally and ensure your attire aligns with the company’s dress code and culture. Pay attention to grooming details and opt for conventional, neutral colors. Remember, it’s better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.

Ask Thoughtful Questions

Towards the end of the interview, you’ll likely be allowed to ask your questions. Take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate your curiosity and enthusiasm for the role. Prepare a list of insightful questions that delve deeper into the company culture, team dynamics, and growth opportunities. You should not ask about salary or benefits unless the interviewer brings it up.

Follow Up with a Thank-You Note

After the interview, remember to send a personalized thank-you note or email to each person you meet with. Express your gratitude for the opportunity to interview and reiterate your interest in the position. Don鈥檛 forget to ask for the job! Use this as another opportunity to highlight your qualifications and reiterate why you’re the ideal candidate for the role. A well-crafted thank-you demonstrates professionalism and leaves a lasting impression on hiring managers.

If you would like a career in the ever-expanding healthcare field, but prefer administrative duties over direct patient care, a job as a medical coder or biller might be ideal for you. 91制片厂 offers a diploma in Coding and Billing for Electronic Medical Records Online program which provides comprehensive training in insurance billing, coding, medical records management, and a variety of healthcare specific administrative functions.

Medical billers or coders can work in a variety of settings including insurance companies, government agencies, doctors鈥 offices, hospital systems, urgent care facilities, and more. Read on to learn about some of the careers you can pursue with this degree.

Medical Biller

A medical biller submits a coded transcript of a patient鈥檚 medical visit to their insurance company to file a claim. They work directly with medical coders, and act as a liaison between insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients. Beyond submitting patient claims, medical billers are tasked with duties such as reviewing patient bills, setting up payment plans and appealing claims the insurance company dismissed.

Medical Records Technician

A medical records technician ensures that patient medical records are accurate and up to date, so that a medical coder can code them properly to file insurance claims. Medical records technicians track and update medical histories, past claims, treatments, and other confidential information.

Billing Analyst

A billing analyst is responsible for patient billing and making sure that patients are billed correctly. They often act as customer support agents for medical providers, answering patient questions, correcting any discrepancies, and seeking clarification from various departments or insurance companies.

Medical Collector

A medical collector may work for a medical facility or a collections agency and work to collect overdue payments from patients 鈥 often by offering alternative payment plans for those who can鈥檛 afford to pay their medical bills right away.

Coding Specialist

A coding specialist takes the information from a patient鈥檚 medical visit and encodes it so that the medical biller can file an insurance claim. Codes are used to record information such as the patient鈥檚 symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, prescribed medications and more. Coding specialists work with doctors, medical assistants, and medical billers to ensure the patient鈥檚 information is accurately coded so there are no discrepancies in the insurance claim.

If you鈥檙e interested in training to become a medical assistant, congratulations! Medical assistants are vital to keeping our healthcare system running smoothly, and provide valuable assistance to doctors and nurses, as well as providing care and support for patients. Here are four important things to consider when you are trying to decide which school is the best fit.

Does the school offer the kind of medical assisting program I want?

What type of medical assisting program are you interested in? If you want to go the fastest route, you should look at medical assisting diploma programs. If you want to invest a little more time and effort for additional employment opportunities, a Medical Assisting Associate of Science Degree may be the better choice for you. Also consider whether you want to attend classes in-person, online, or take a hybrid approach. Make sure the school you choose offers you the options you want.

Is the school accredited?

To be eligible to take your certification exam(s), you need to enroll in a diploma or associate degree program in medical assisting that is accredited. Program graduates at qualify for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam, offered through the American Medical Technologists Association as well as the EKG Technician Certification (CET) and the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) exams through the National Healthcare Association. These certifications can open the door to different career paths and opportunities.

Can I afford to attend a medical assisting program?

When it comes to getting an education, there are so many options, an Associate Degree, a Diploma, or a Certificate. All those options, along with deciding where, when, and what to study  – it can be difficult. When is the right time? What will you study? Where will you go? So many things to consider. You may be wondering what the differences are and how to choose the right program for your goals. Fortunately, we鈥檝e got some answers to help you get on the career path that鈥檚 right for you!

Program Length

The first thing to understand about any program you鈥檙e considering is the time frame for completion. It鈥檚 also one of the main differences between the three awards. An Associate Degree program typically takes around two years to complete. For example, graduates of the Natural Health Program at 91制片厂 earn an Associate of Science Degree upon completion of the 60-week program. Whereas, other Beauty & Wellness Programs at Daytona are 40 weeks long with graduates earning a diploma. The majority of diploma programs take one year or less. A certificate program often requires even less time to complete. One of Daytona鈥檚 Allied Health Programs – the Home Health Aide Program, earns you a certificate and consists of 75 contact hours and only 2.0 credit hours of instruction and clinical practice. In some cases, certificate programs enhance your existing skillset or to refresh your knowledge in a particular area.

Type of Institution

Another differentiator between the three awards is the type of institution each is offered at. Most traditional 4-year universities offer Associate and Bachelors鈥 Degree programs, as well as more advanced graduate degrees. These degrees are required for many professional fields. This differs from most technical and vocational schools, where skill-based training is more common and diploma and certificate programs more prevalent. (Although many technical schools also offer Associate and Bachelors鈥 Degree programs). In addition to the Natural Health Program mentioned above, 91制片厂 also provides three other Associate Degree options in its Allied Health curriculum鈥揗edical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, and Nursing. The programs offered at the Diploma level are for students who are seeking a faster track to earning.

Program Outcomes

Depending on what field you decide to pursue, the requirements for working in that field differ. For individuals seeking careers in professional roles such as teaching or law, the longer, more traditional university route is going to be their best option for success. But for skill-based careers in fields like Cosmetology, Practical Nursing, or Therapeutic Massage, a high-quality diploma program is a great choice. They can get you working in your chosen field much faster. It all comes down to what your unique goals happen to be for your career. No matter what career path you want, be sure to do the research and be aware of what kind of education will give you the best chance for success! It鈥檚 safe to say if you ranked all the career paths out there based on that 鈥淚鈥檓 making a difference鈥 feeling, careers in nursing – would probably make the top ten. After all, when your job is all about helping other people feel better and you鈥檙e in a field that pays well and is predicted to grow at a much faster than average rate 鈥 what鈥檚 not to feel good about? Even better, the nursing industry offers more than just one way to apply your education. Translation – you have options! If you鈥檙e considering a future in the nursing profession, here are some different ways to put your education to work for you!

Nursing Specialties

There are many different specialties within nursing for individuals looking to work in a particular area within the nursing industry. These areas may require additional training or experience and include specialties such as 鈥

  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Diabetes Management Nursing
  • Geriatric Care Nursing
  • Psychiatric Nursing
  • Oncology Nursing

Non-Traditional Nursing Careers

It鈥檚 true that the majority of nurses work in hospitals or medical facilities. But of the best things about choosing to pursue a career in nursing, is that you鈥檙e not limited to just bedside nursing in a traditional healthcare environment. Nurses can find rewarding careers in places that might surprise you.

Cruise Ship Nurse 鈥 Who said you couldn鈥檛 enjoy your workplace? Cruise ships must have qualified medical staff on board to provide emergency medical care for a number of things. And while you鈥檒l typically be part of a small team, there鈥檚 sure to be plenty of interaction with people from all walks of life.

Travel Nurse 鈥 Got itchy feet and a bit of wanderlust? Well, you can scratch that itch and earn a living at the same time as a traveling nurse. There are nursing recruitment agencies that specialize in filling positions all over the world. Just make sure you understand all the immigration and travel requirements for wherever you might end up.

Occupational Health Nurse 鈥 If you prefer the analytical and administrative side of nursing, this could be a good fit. Many private companies retain occupational health nurses to ensure their organization is maintaining health standards and adhering to government regulations. They are also tasked with assessing occupational risks and developing policies to minimize those risks.

Home Health Nurse 鈥 If caring for people in their own home appeals to you, home health nursing is a great option. These nursing professionals provide medical care and create long-term treatment plans for the elderly or individuals who are confined to their homes for medical reasons.

School Nurse 鈥 The majority of elementary, secondary and high schools have a school nurse on staff. These nurses must undergo rigorous background checks and typically are required to obtain school or state-specific certifications. Their common duties include treating minor illnesses and injuries and providing educational support for health programs.

There are plenty of careers that make you feel good about what you do for a living. And then there are careers that make you feel great about what you do for a living – because your job is to make others feel better. That鈥檚 a pretty great feeling. And that鈥檚 also the nursing profession.

If you鈥檇 like to learn more about a career touching people鈥檚 lives on a daily basis, check out the Nursing Programs at 91制片厂. H3 {display: inline; font-weight: 700} Striking the right balance between going to school and living your life is no easy task. Especially when your daily routine feels more like a clip from the latest Fast and the Furious movie. But achieving that perfect life and school balance is possible. It just takes a little planning. Here are some ways to bring the calm versus crazy to your life, if you happen to have a little too much on your plate.

Get plenty of vitamin zzzzz鈥檚

鈥 Sleep that is. Oh, we get it. Sometimes staying up until 3 am to finish that work assignment or study for that test seems like the only option. The problem is your body won鈥檛 function properly without enough sleep. So, whatever work you happen to be doing, it鈥檚 likely to suffer right along with your bloodshot eyes. Not to mention your stress level. Waking up an hour or two earlier is a better option after a good 8 hours versus pulling an all-nighter.

Create your perfect study zone

鈥 Designate an area in your home for studying. Make sure it鈥檚 an area you enjoy being in with good light and the things that help you focus. Soft music, comfortable seating, and no distractions. This will help cramming for a test feel a bit more like relaxing at home.

Make technology your friend

鈥 Technology can bring harmony to your daily life by making things more organized and convenient. There are a ton of options for online classes, so check out what might work for you. Instead of racing from work to campus, you can come home and learn in your PJs.

Speaking of technology

鈥 Smartphones are called smart for a reason. Most of them come with helpful calendars and scheduling tools. If not, there are apps that you can download that will help you stay organized by making sure you鈥檙e on top of both work and school-related tasks.

There鈥檚 no 鈥淚鈥 in team

鈥 You may be the one juggling school and work, but your family, co-workers and fellow students can actually make life a lot easier. Be sure to talk it out with everyone your schedule involves and get a good support structure in place. These are your people! They want you to succeed. So, lean on them and in the long run everybody wins.

Make time to make time

鈥 For yourself. You know that expression, 鈥淒on鈥檛 get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life鈥? It鈥檚 one to live by. Take time for you, whether that鈥檚 bowling with the fam or hiking up a mountain, as one famous sneaker maker said 鈥 just do it! After all, what ARE you doing all of this for if not to enjoy your life?

Working and living your life + going back to school does not have to = chaos. And continuing your education can have more rewards than you can imagine! Remember why you decided to do this, and you鈥檒l get to the finish line and on the path to a brighter future. If you鈥檙e on the fence about going back to school, talk to the education professionals at 91制片厂. With several degree and certificate programs to choose from, Daytona can help you find the right career path for your future. Contact us today to learn more or to schedule a campus tour.

Health careers, in general, are on the rise. Things like an aging population of baby boomers, government healthcare, and advances in technology have all contributed to an explosion of growth in the healthcare industry. One career path that is predicted to grow even faster is that of the medical assistant. In fact, the Occupational Information Network (www.onetonline.org) predicts that jobs for medical assistants will increase by 38% by the year 2026. That鈥檚 a whole lot faster than average, to say the least. To understand such a spike in demand, we decided to take a look at why the future is looking so bright for these healthcare heroes.

The Multi-Faceted Medical Assistant

One of the biggest reasons a medical assistant is so valuable to a medical team is their versatility. They are trained to perform both administrative and clinical duties, making them the ultimate multi-tasker.

On the administrative side of things, a medical assistant may schedule appts, greet patients, update and input medical records, handle correspondence, billing, answer the phones or perform a number of other administrative tasks. Clinical duties could include collecting and prepping lab specimens, recording vital signs, drawing blood or administering medication. With such a dual capacity, it鈥檚 fair to say that a medical assistant is a valuable multi-tasking resource in any medical practice.

What Kind of Organizations Hire Medical Assistants?

Medical assistants can work in a variety of settings including:

  • Doctor鈥檚 offices
  • Hospitals
  • Chiropractors
  • Emergency rooms
  • Urgent care clinics
  • Nursing and assisted living facilities
  • Schools
  • Military
  • Government agencies

What are the Education Requirements for a Medical Assistant?

Every state has its own individual requirements for certification, but most programs can be completed in 2-years or less. Graduates can earn a diploma, certificate or an associate degree, depending on the program. The great thing about graduating with any of the above is that it鈥檚 like earning a license to grow your career! It鈥檚 also a great launchpad for people who want to go even further in their medical training in the future.

Choosing the Right Program

While some states don鈥檛 require any additional certifications to work as a medical assistant, the majority of employers are more likely to hire those with certifications. So, choosing a school with a program that is recognized by organizations, like the American Medical Technologists (AMT) and the National Healthcare Association, is a good place to start. It鈥檚 also why 91制片厂 is a great place to start. The Medical Assisting Program at 91制片厂, not only offers day and evening classes, it also offers both a Medical Assisting Associate of Science Program and a Medical Assisting Diploma Program. And program graduates will qualify for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), EKG Technician Certification (CET) and Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) exams.

If you鈥檝e always loved working with people and are looking for a fulfilling career that has amazing growth potential, a career in medical assisting could be a great fit! And 91制片厂 can help you get there. Contact us today to learn more or to schedule a tour of our campus in beautiful Ormond Beach, Florida.
